Calvin Washington to Try for Spot on Bear's Roster
MAY 14, 2014, BOWLING GREEN, KY - Former Hilltopper defensive lineman Calvin Washington will get his shot at the NFL - the Charlottesville, VA, native will try out for a position on the Chicago Bears' roster early next week.
At a towering 6'5', Washington was a force to be reckoned with on the defensive line - at Western Kentucky he racked up 72 tackles, 2 forced fumbles and 6.5 sacks.
'This is just another chance for me to show that I've worked really hard,' said Washington on the upcoming workout. 'It's a great opportunity as a player, and gives me a shot to make it big. My goal is just to play ball.'
Washington follows in the NFL footsteps of a fellow Hilltopper DE - Quanterus Smith of the Broncos (2013 - 5th round).
James Peterson, Washington's NFL agent, spoke highly of his client's chances for a roster spot. 'This is an exciting opportunity for Calvin,' said Peterson. 'He's a great fit for the Bears - good size and good power. He's got that little chip on his shoulder, that kind of ferocious streak that makes him perfect for this team.'
Washington has a weekend of workouts ahead with the hopes of a contract from the team in the early part of next week.
